By Liesbeth Goedhart
ARTIST BIO
Liesbeth Goedhart, a Dutch–Australian artist based in Fremantle, transforms simple materials into abstract works that shift from flat surfaces into sculptural wall objects. Her practice moves between two and two-and-a-half dimensions and is a deep exploration of the texture, form and materiality of the world around her.
Her compositions on paper, board and canvas as well as her wall objects are a dialogue between graphite, acrylic, plaster, cement, fabric, paper, and salvaged cardboard, timbe and used hessian bags. Her focus on the physical substance, texture and essence of materials and objects act as a counter-movement to the digital age. In a fast-paced consumption driven-world her use of salvaged materials is a way to slow down and reflect.
