SITE-SPECIFIC RESIDENCY:

W.SZE TSANG

We are really excited to introduce W. Sze Tsang / samarobryn as our second recipient of the residency this year. The residency starts Saturday 09 of Aug.

I am an audio-visual artist who is interested in exploring the intersections of history, place and self through digital audio-visual work. I create my work using aspects of place - such as
field recordings, maps and information sourced from geospatial and weather datasets - and my personal reflections as an observer as ways of exploring the multi-layered intersections of
time, history, ecology and geographical features existing within a place. By exposing the multiple layers of narrative that inform place, my works invite an unearthing of the past meditations on the present and contemplations of the future.

My works featuring a combination of field recordings, both original and altered through various effects such as delay, echo, distortion, and time-stretching (through Adobe Audition
and Ableton, two digital audio workstations), maps rendered into a digital virtual instrument using a program called Iannix, an open-source graphical sequencer, and data visualisations
and audio-reactive visuals via TouchDesigner, a node-based visual programming language.

All these elements allow me to blur the boundaries between different temporalities and narratives - for instance, by having contemporary field recordings play alongside historical
maps and weather data..
